ArtsFund’s highly regarded grant making system features two separate committees (in King and Pierce Counties, respectively) made up of business leaders, corporate grant makers and private philanthropists who review applications and interview the organizations seeking support. In 2007, the committees allotted $2.92 million to 69 arts groups.

Here are the minimum eligibility requirements for funding consideration:

  • Be incorporated as a Washington State non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operating in the performing, visual, literary, film, media or related arts
  • Have a minimum 3-year record of continuous operation in King or Pierce County
  • Provide more than 50% of services in King and/or Pierce County
  • Have a board of directors, a majority of whom are not paid employees of the organization
  • Have at least one professional, full-time, paid management staff member (two or more staff members may combine for one FTE)
  • Have an annual operating budget, averaged over the last three fiscal years, of at least $150,000 if operating in King County; or, have an annual operating budget, averaged over the last three fiscal years, of at least $75,000 if operating in Pierce County
  • Have an audited financial statement for the year preceding the award year on which an opinion has been expressed by an independent certified public accountant; or, have financial reports for the year preceding the application year, signed by the board treasurer
