Cultural Resource Collective
Mission
The Cultural Resource Collective is a shared database which enables arts and cultural organizations to better understand the Northwest patron, to build the culture of collaboration, and to perform detailed research for growing audiences, fundraising, tourism, and advocacy purposes.
About
The Cultural Resource Collective is currently in its second year and consists of twenty-nine arts and cultural organizations in the Puget Sound Area. These groups have collaborated to upload their patron records into a private and secure central database which is managed by TRG Arts, and facilitated by ArtsFund.
The records uploaded by arts organizations are processed by the National Change of Address to improve accuracy in contact information. The US Postal Service requires this activity four times per year. The patron segments are analyzed in a variety of comparative reports that provide insights into how audiences cross-over across the region. Through a special relationship with our data services provider, the records are then matched with extensive consumer information to assign demographic attributes. While most participating organizations are able to research how their patrons attend their events, the CRC enables them to know how their patrons behave with the rest of the community and the wider marketplace. As the CRC has quickly learned, this tool provides an invaluable understanding of the Puget Sound community that goes beyond event attendance and speaks directly to the lifestyle values of our community, economic impact of arts and culture, tourism attractions, and the areas in need of exposure.
Many surprising facts about the region’s arts and cultural audiences have been discovered. The database currently holds over one million active unique households, with records existing in all fifty states. Of the one million, 77% reside in the four-county region. Discoveries like these enable participants to create audience development initiatives more efficiently, provide substantial evidence for grant applications, and disprove notions that those who participate in the arts are few and privileged.
The Cultural Resource Collective builds the culture of collaboration and provides valuable information about how to enrich and engage our community.
