COVID Cultural Impact Study

About the study |

Arts, cultural, heritage, and science nonprofit organizations in our communities have been incredibly hard hit by the pandemic. Since March 2020, ArtsFund has been collecting quarterly snapshot data to capture some of the impacts across the sector. As Washington State approaches recovery, ArtsFund is tackling a comprehensive COVID Cultural Impact Study of arts, cultural, heritage, and science nonprofit organizations.

Through case studies and patron, organizational, and public surveys, the COVID Cultural Impact Study will capture the economic and social impacts of the pandemic and public-health mandated venue closures to arts, cultural, heritage, and science nonprofit organizations across Washington state, and as a result, the impacts to their communities. The resulting report will be a valuable advocacy tool providing critical and actionable data tracking the role cultural nonprofits played during the pandemic; identifying the role arts and culture will play in economic and social recovery; establishing a new benchmark against which we can track post-pandemic growth, recovery, and activity; and demonstrating where support is most needed for the sector.

The COVID Cultural Impact Study will be released in Winter 2021-2022.
