Summer Camps at the Burke
Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture

Campers participate in hands-on investigations, behind-the-scenes tours, and visits with real scientist, all while having fun at the museum and on the beautiful University of Washington campus. The DANCE This Camp at Centrum provides an opportunity for high school students to study a wide range of dance styles and techniques in a supportive, yet challenging atmosphere.
Students participate in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Modern, Contemporary/Lyrical, Cultural and other specialty dance classes with professional dance instructors from the Seattle area and beyond.
Each day includes technique classes and repertory sessions, with time for meals and exploring the Fort Worden campus. At the end of the week, students share their work at a Saturday showcase for friends and family.

Being a savvy consumer and creator of media stories is a crucial skill for teens today. In this two week camp, students will learn the necessary storytelling, journalism and video production techniques to participate in Northwest Film Forum’s Citizen Minutes video initiative. Citizen Minutes explores what’s happening across our city, amplifying individual voices, stories and insights. After learning and creating stories during camp, teens will be prepared to go on making compelling and shareable content that can reach mass audiences. Final pieces will be shown online and in our theater as weekly newsreels before film screenings.

Scribes creative writing camps offer students in grades 6-12 the opportunity to stay creatively challenged over the summer. Through fun and dynamic instruction from published writers, arts-driven field trips, and more, Scribes camps deepen students’ connection to the written word and open the literary world to youth from all levels of writing experience and backgrounds. This year, one- to two-week camps take place at Hugo House’s temporary location on First Hill and at partner organizations, The Henry Art Gallery and MOHAI. Each camp culminates in a community reading, a chance for students to share their work with family and peers.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Arts Liberation Leadership Institute (ALLI)

Youth aged 14-19 who are interested in creating change through their artistry and leadership. The program is geared towards young artists who have interest/experience in one of our four pathways: poetry, visual art, breakdance and music production.

The Arts Liberation and Leadership Institute (ALLI) is a two-week intensive summer program where 28 youth are trained in artistry, social justice and organizing. Youth leaders develop as cultural workers in four arts pathways: spoken word poetry, music production, visual art and breakdance. This cohort of youth hones their arts and organizing skills, while deepening their understandings of race and social justice issues. They collaborate, build community and create art that challenges oppression and envisions a more just world.

Mosaic Glass, Encaustic Wax, Colored Pencil, Portfolio Building, Abstract Art, Camp “Gritty” and Zentangle – we have a bunch of Teen Camps lined up this summer and they are incredible! Our Teen Summer Camps are designed for ages 12 and up with professional artist instructors ready to take your art to the next level. Whther you are a complete beginner or accomplished young artist, we have the right camps for you!

Summer Glass Arts program (Middle School)

This summer, Hilltop Artists is offering three unique programs: Glassblowing, Flame-working to make beads, and Glass fusion.
Students can choose session 1, session 2, or session 3, and one of two daily session times:
Session 1: June 25-July 5
Session 2: July 9-July 19
Session 3: July 23-August 2
Cost: $100 materials fee
Fee may be waived – ask for details
Students must be at least 12 years old.
All experience levels are encouraged to apply.

This summer glass arts program will offer glassblowing and bead-making, and will run for 2 two-week sessions. This class is designed for high school students in grades 9 through 12.
All experience levels are encouraged to apply.
Each class is two weeks long, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Seven weeks of full day art camps for ages 5 – 12 and six weeks of teen intensives. Every week, children will find a new adventure in art led by trained, professional art instructors. Explorations of culture and art history prompt lively, enriching discussions. Students are further encouraged to connect with each other through the process of art critique.

Summerfest: Young Artists Exhibition

The Young Artists Exhibition is a three-day art show for all creative youth up to age 18 during the 7th annual Kirkland Summerfest Music + Art Festival. This year, the Young Artist Exhibition will be at the historic Heritage Hall in downtown Kirkland.

In KAC’s Summer Art Camps, children ages 5-12 will make discoveries and learn new skills through use of a variety of mediums & techniques that include clay, paper, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, pastels, printmaking inks, and water-based paints. In KAC’s week-long teen intensives, students ages 13 and up will gain foundational skills in ceramics, observational drawing, painting, printmaking, and more.

Creative Darkroom Photography for Teens

Learn the classic art of shooting and printing with film. Each day shoot a roll of black and white film, develop it, and print using PCNW’s great darkrooms.

Pratt’s youth summer program fosters an appreciation of art for students ages 7-12. Pratt introduces students to a variety of materials and artistic concepts to evoke their curiosity and to hone their natural creativity develop perseverance, and critical thinking. Professional artists teach students in a fun, relaxed environment where they can express their creativity and gain self-confidence. The techniques developed at Pratt do not stop here; students use these new skills artistically, academically, and interpersonally. Pratt has committed to racial equity as a core value and ongoing practice, allocating resources to the breakdown of systemic barriers and the development of equitable solutions organization-wide.
