ArtsFund Celebrates Creativity at Seafair’s Milk Carton Derby
Set Your Imagination Afloat!

Seattle, WA – On Saturday, July 11, 2015, ArtsFund is partnering with Seafair to present the ArtsFund Celebrates Creativity Awards at the Milk Carton Derby.  Over 100 milk carton boats of all shapes and designs compete annually in front of 10,000+ spectators.  For the second year, ArtsFund is showcasing the inspiration and innovation of the Milk Carton Derby entrants.

Mari Horita, ArtsFund President and CEO, stated, “At ArtsFund we believe arts, culture and creative expression are vital to a healthy community.   The ArtsFund Celebrates Creativity Awards highlight the innovation and artistry of all the boats competing in the Milk Carton Derby.  We live in a region known worldwide for its originality and innovation, and ArtsFund is pleased to partner with Seafair in celebrating the widespread creativity in our local community.”

Beth Knox, President and CEO, Seafair and Seafair Foundation, added, “The Seafair Milk Carton Derby is grassroots design and creativity at its best. It is accessible to anyone with an idea and spirit to build something artistic and fun, so the alignment with ArtsFund is a perfect match for Seafair.”

All Showboat entries are eligible for the ArtsFund Celebrates Creativity Award.  ArtsFund offers prizing in three sub-categories: Youth, General and Military. The Showboat Parade of all entrants is scheduled for 1:15pm.

ArtsFund is also the official sponsor of the ArtsFund Team Challenges, two 45 minute on-site boat-building competitions (currently scheduled for 10:45am and 1:00pm). As they construct their boats in this timed challenge, teams are presented the opportunity to add fun and unique design elements.  Decorative materials for the ArtsFund Team Challenges are generously provided by the Seattle Art Museum.

Regan Pro, Associate Director, Education & Public Programs, Seattle Art Museum, stated, “The Seattle Art Museum is pleased to be participating in the Seafair Milk Carton Derby in collaboration with the ArtsFund Celebrates Creativity Awards. At SAM we continually support creative learning, independent thinking, and innovative ideas that connect art to life. We look forward to providing participants an array of materials to adorn their boats in imaginative ways.”

Horita continued, “Celebrating creativity in action at the ArtsFund Team Challenges, ArtsFund’s awards highlight inventiveness in impulse and execution. Join ArtsFund in celebrating creativity at the Milk Carton Derby and set your imagination afloat!”
